The summer break is almost over—but not quite! If you’re looking to squeeze out some fun in the last week of your vacation before the school year starts, here’s a handy guide to activities that are always fun in Austin.
See a concert!
There’s a reason why Austin is called the “Live Music Capital of the World,’ and it’s not because of our food trucks! Austin is full of great venues, such as Antone’s, the Bass Concert Hall, or the Frank Erwin Center. Check out our previous post for more.
Zilker Park

Zilker is a popular go-to weekend destination because its whopping 351 acres are constantly filled with fun and family-friendly attractions. Have a picnic, play some volleyball or frisbee, take your dog, and socialize with others!
Botanical gardens.

There’s no better time to see the hundreds of different flowers, plants, and cacti that Austin has to offer. If you want to stay outside but you want a sealed-off, low-key experience, check out Zilker’s Botanical Garden or the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. At these fun locations, you can see beautiful plants while getting educated, too!
Kayaking

Kayaking is another popular family activity in Austin, since it helps keep you cool and spend some time outdoors. Most people congregate around the Colorado River, especially right in Lady Bird Lake.
If you’re a college student reading this because you don’t want the summer to end, don’t worry—you’ve got plenty of time to visit some of the most well-known locations in Austin.
